Volkswagen of America, Inc. is delighted to announce the CHAMP Robot of its development. It’s a telepresence robot designed in partnership with the Silicon Valley-based robotics firm OhmniLabs.

The aim of developing CHAMP Robot is to help young soccer fans in the United States communicate and actively engage in soccer events even if they are ill or have other circumstances that prevent individuals from attending matches.

The Volkswagen Robot intends to offer mobility while also expanding the reach of the U.S. Soccer player honoree program. In this program, Volkswagen selects 11 children; fascinated by soccer and provides a chance to come on the field with National Team players during the National Anthem.

The telepresence robot features a stunning design, a sleek finishing, and an aerodynamic body inspired by the German automaker’s ID.4 all-electric SUV and an ID.4 inspired light system for the LED.

Luna Perrone, a standout for the Palm Beach Gardens Youth Athletic Association, will be the first Volkswagen virtual player honoree. She is a 10-year-old athlete diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a unique type of bone cancer. Perrone has continued to play the sport ever after undergoing extensive treatments. Perrone is constantly searching for creative ways to sharpen her skills by juggling a ball or doing calisthenics.

Chris Perrone, Luna’s father, says:

“As soon as she hits the field, everyone knows who she is.”

The CHAMP Robot, launched on 1st July, helped Luna Perrone to meet the team members of the U.S. Women’s National Team, including two-time FIFA World Cup champion and Volkswagen Ambassador Alex Morgan, whom Luna regards as a role model and source of inspiration throughout her treatments.

Dr. Thuc Vu, co-founder, and CEO of OhmniLabs, says:

“Giving young fans like Luna an opportunity to be a part of the player honoree experience using our robots is one of the most rewarding aspects of our business; and players like Alex Morgan who give their time and talent to important programs like this, serve as role models that we are proud to align with.”

He continues, “CHAMP is a great example of how quickly we can build custom robots using our modular platform. We are thrilled with the outcome and excited to see CHAMP on the soccer fields this year.”

Following the debut, CHAMP will join future Women’s and Men’s National Team games, giving other children the chance to be virtual honoree players in 2021 and beyond.

Volkswagen is one of the biggest passenger car producers globally and Europe’s most significant automobile company. The launch of the CHAMP Robot by the Volkswagen Group is a massive step in encouraging young soccer fans to engage in matches actively. The collaboration of OhmniLabs and Volkswagen will be highly beneficial as OhmniLabs robots are utilized daily by companies, medical staff, institutions, hospitals, and sports teams worldwide. Many people are getting inspired by Luna’s story. Through CHAMP Robot, individuals could convey tremendous and inspiring stories.
