FedEx Ground, A subsidiary of FedEx Corporation, partners with Berkshire Grey to implement its RPSi systems to sort out small packages efficiently. Berkshire Grey has administered RPSi systems to autonomously handle the small package in the hubs across the FedEx Ground network.
RPSi system offers – pick, identify, sort, collect and containerize – individual poly bags, tubes, padded mailer functions, and manually sorts other small packages. It is FedEx Ground’s latest investment to help accommodate the rapid growth of e-commerce through the implementation of automation and robotics.
Due to the drastic growth of the E-commerce Industry, The demand for picker robots is rising. To meet this soaring demand, Berkshire Grey unveils next-generation Robotic Picking and advanced mobility solutions.
It has also announced that it had received a $23+ Million order for Picker Robots for online grocery delivery.
Ted Dengel, FedEx Ground’s director of operations technology and innovation, stated that the initial package handling and processing accuracy of Berkshire Grey’s RPSi system in their Queens facility had encouraged them. He added that as an industry leader in technology and automation, they see the significant benefits that next-generation innovation brings of increased safety and productivity, improved customer service, and increased flexibility to adjust to changing package volumes and sizes.

Jessica Moran, SVP Parcels, and 3PL corporations at Berkshire Grey said that their RPSi machine is designed from the ground up to mechanically handle excessive volumes of small packages in small spaces with limited worker intervention. It reduces excess work, streamlines sorting methods, and grows provider operations’ performance throughout their networks.
FedEx ground intends to put in more Berkshire Grey RPSi systems in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Columbus, Ohio, in the coming months. They believe that enduring innovation and automation will enhance crew participants’ safety, performance, and productivity as they preserve the e-commerce supply chain.
